ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - Limestone County sheriff’s officials say a man has been charged with animal cruelty after malnourished cattle were found dead on his property.

Sheriff Mike Blakely tells WAAY-TV (https://bit.ly/1h2fxX3 ) that investigators found eight dead animals on 80 acres of land belonging to 49-year-old David Coffman Jr. Authorities say Coffman is also charged with failure to bury dead animals.

Blakely says investigators responding to complaints from neighbors on Monday morning found seven dead cows and a calf that was slowly dying.

Coffman is free on bond and it’s unclear if he has an attorney. Blakely says deputies will monitor Coffman’s property to make sure he feeds the remaining livestock.
