PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say people tossed their children out windows and some were hurt jumping from the second story as fire swept through a Pasadena apartment building.

Nineteen people, including several children, were displaced by the blaze that erupted about 2 a.m. Monday.

Authorities say four adults were slightly injured when they jumped from second-story windows.

Dalia Esteban told the Pasadena Star-News (https://bit.ly/1ckoACV) that she threw her 3- and 4-year-old daughters out the window to neighbors, who safely caught them.

Damage was put at more than a half-million dollars.

A half-hour before that fire, another blaze damaged a large home near the Rose Bowl but three people escaped without injury.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.
