RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Wake County schools are reviewing the system’s policy on gifts for teachers.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports (https://bit.ly/1oHMGg1 ) the current policy bans cash gifts and says teachers can only accept token gifts of insubstantial value. Some officials wonder if the ban on cash gifts should include gift cards and want a better definition of insubstantial value.

There is no ban on gifts given for classroom supplies.

Wake County PTA Council President Gary Lewis isn’t sure a ban on gift cars is a good idea. He says gift cards provide flexibility and a teacher probably would want 30 coffee mugs or bags of candy.
