BLANCHARD, Mich. (AP) - A utility is giving a new home to ospreys that nested on football stadium lights at a Michigan high school.
The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant reports (https://bit.ly/1fsVqio ) Consumers Energy on Friday installed a platform for the birds at Montabella High School’s football field.
The birds nested in recent years in one of the light towers at the school in Montcalm County, about 50 miles northeast of Grand Rapids.
Consumers Energy spokesman Roger Morgenstern says the birds have produced several chicks over the years. The birds currently are wintering in South America.
Consumers Energy has installed several osprey nesting platforms across Michigan. Last year, the unit of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corp. worked with school and state officials in Osceola County to deal with a similar problem at Marion High School.
