SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A load of trash in the back of a Logan City garbage truck has been doused after catching on fire.

Workers noticed smoke coming from the haul Monday morning while the truck was travelling on a rural road outside of Mendon.

Mendon Fire Chief Ray Olsen tells the Herald Journal (https://bit.ly/1eK0ePw ) the garbage truck emptied its haul on 5400 West near 2000 South.

Olsen estimates the nearest home was about 300 yards away from where workers emptied out the trash. He says the potential for such hazards is a part of the job.

The truck wasn’t seriously damaged and no injuries were reported after the fire.

The Herald Journal reports Logan City officials did not immediately return phone calls from the Journal on Monday.
