Rufus the fish won’t be evicted from home

ROSEMEAD, Calif. (AP) - Good news for Rufus the fish - the carrot-loving pacu (PA’-koo) won’t be evicted from his home of nearly 40 years.

Rufus was left symbolically high and dry when the Bahooka, a tiki restaurant in the Los Angeles suburb of Rosemead, closed last March.

But the Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/1gcZaX1 ) says the property’s current owners decided Monday to keep Rufus. They plan to build him a new 2,000-gallon tank, where Rufus will live when they open a Chinese restaurant on the site later this year.

Rufus was a beloved resident of the Bahooka. A veggie-loving relative of the piranha, patrons would feed him carrots as he lazed in his tank. He even appeared in a scene with Johnny Depp filmed for the movie “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.”
