MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Investigators have determined that human remains found in December in Horry County were not connected to any missing person cases in the area.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office released more information about the dead man Monday. He appears to be a white man between 35 and 60 years old. He was about 5-foot-5 and scientists could only pinpoint when he died to between 2001 and 2012.

Investigators say the man had several medical issues. He had only 11 ribs and appeared to have worn a halo device after having a broken neck or spinal surgery.

Items found nearby included swim trunks and a yellow and white metal cross with “Spike’s” engraved on the back.

The coroner’s office sent the information to a federal database in hopes of identifying the man.
