YORK, Maine (AP) - A Maine town official is concerned about public beach access in York.

Board of Selectmen Chairman Ron Nowell says a recent Maine Supreme Judicial Court decision in Goose Rocks Beach case could create precedent for private property owners to gate off access to local beaches. Nowell says the best defense will be for the town to buy the beaches.

The Portsmouth Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1chFVfw) that Nowell will place this topic on the agenda for a meeting on Feb. 24.
