DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - The Davenport school district has been given a $500,000, four-year grant to establish the Creative Arts Academy of the Quad Cities.

The Quad-City Times says (https://bit.ly/1j4ff3I ) the money comes from the Hubbell-Waterman Foundation. The district also received a $160,000, two-year grant from the Riverboat Development Authority that will be used for the academy.

District spokeswoman Dawn Saul says around 63 percent of the district’s 4,300 high school students are enrolled in a fine arts program or course.



The new academy will feature programs in visual arts and music performance as well as courses in theater, dance and communication and media arts.
