QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - Cleanup is scheduled to start at the site of a fire that destroyed an historic downtown Quincy hotel.

The Quincy Herald-Whig reports (https://bit.ly/1gNuhdz) that cleanup is expected to begin Monday at the site of the former Newcomb Hotel. That’s more than five months after a five-alarm blaze destroyed the building on Sept. 6. The hotel opened in 1888 but had been empty for years.

Sugar Grove contractor BSB Development Inc. was to start removing debris. The project is expected to take six to eight weeks.

The contractor is to be paid about $440,000. The work includes salvaging certain architectural features from the building. That would include the dedication plaque and Corinthian columns.
