CHICAGO (AP) - The Cook County medical examiner says the cause of death for a University of Chicago student found in his dorm room is inconclusive and pending toxicology tests.

An autopsy on 20-year-old Nicholas Barnes was performed Sunday.

University officials say the third-year student was found Saturday afternoon.

Police say it appeared Barnes had been dead for some time, but didn’t have further details.

University officials say there was no evidence of foul play. The cause of death is under investigation. Officials say staff members are “making every effort” to understand the circumstances around the death.

Barnes was majoring in Germanic studies and had studied in Austria in the fall of 2012.

University officials say Barnes’ family is planning a funeral in Pittsburgh.
