RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The N.C. Museum of History is presenting documentaries that tell the stories of people who challenged the legal and social fabric of their times on issues including slavery and segregation.
The series, called “Created Equal,” opened in January with a movie titled “Freedom Riders” about the year 1961, when blacks and white traveled together on buses and trains in the South.
It continues Sunday with “The Loving Story,” an Emmy Award-documentary about Richard and Mildred Loving. The interracial couple sued the state of Virginia in 1967, affecting its Racial Integrity Act of 1924.
The series ends March 16 with “Slavery by Another Name,” a 2012 film that tells how forced labor continued in the South after the Civil War.
