MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Grants are available to Vermont farms and food hubs serving schools, hospitals and other institutional markets.

The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets say $40,000 will be available through the Local Food Market Development Grant program for 2014. The deadline to apply is March 3.

The grants will be up to $7,500 and require a 25 percent cash or in-kind match from the producers and 50 percent match from community groups and food hubs.

The Agriculture Agency says the grants are aimed at increasing producers’ access to such markets and increasing the amount of local food available in Vermont institutions. The funding will go to support infrastructure development such as capital improvements on the farm and equipment purchase and also can be used for marketing materials and outreach.
