LORAIN, Ohio (AP) - An investigation is underway into an accident at a northern Ohio steel plant that has left one worker dead.

Authorities say the fatal accident happened Friday in the train yard at Republic Steel in Lorain. A 62-year-old man who worked on a train crew at the steel plant was killed.

A union official says the worker who was a longtime Republic Steel employee was riding on the side of a train car when it hit a set of parked train cars.

The man’s name was not released. He died at the scene.

Workers were sent home after the accident and production was stopped.

The U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration says it already has started its investigation.
