LITCHFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Funeral arrangements are pending for a southern Illinois man who authorities say was killed when a train hit a pickup truck.

Illinois State Police say 26-year-old Nicholas Rayphole of Litchfield was a passenger in the truck when it was hit around 11:30 a.m. Friday in Macoupin (muh-KOO’-pin) County. He died at the scene of the accident.

The pickup truck’s driver, 30-year-old Brian Irwin of Litchfield, was flown by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was in critical condition on Saturday.

Police say Irwin was driving the pickup truck across tracks at a rural Norfolk Southern crossing when the train hit the vehicle’s driver’s side.
