HOUMA, La. (AP) - Law enforcement agencies in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes are making final plan to ensure there will be enough space in their jails for an expected increase in inmate populations during Carnival season.
The Lafourche Parish jail is over its capacity of 280 with many of its inmates housed in jails outside the parish due to overcrowding. Terrebonne’s jail is slightly under its capacity of 612 inmates, The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1aVgp1f).
In Terrebonne, the Sheriff’s Office works with the district attorney’s office to move up court dates for inmates with misdemeanor charges.
