BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) - Authorities have identified an inmate who died in southeast Nebraska’s Gage County Detention Center as the suspect in a police standoff earlier in the week.

Deputy Gage County Attorney Amanda Spracklen-Hogan tells Beatrice radio station KWBE reports (https://bit.ly/1hljfj0) that 36-year-old Adam Wolken was found unresponsive in his jail cell just before 4 a.m. Saturday and could not be revived. She did not say how he died.

Wolken was arrested early Thursday following a standoff with police at a Beatrice motel. Police say Wolken held two women and a 20-month old child hostage before surrendering.

The Nebraska State Patrol will investigate Wolken’s death. State law requires a grand jury investigation any time a person died in state custody or during in the process of being detained.
