FRISCO, N.C. (AP) - A portion of N.C. 12 on Hatteras Island will be closed for several days later this month, but this time Mother Nature isn’t to blame.
Officials with the state Transportation Department say a section of N.C. 12 in Frisco will close at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, so workers can replace a culvert pipe. They say the road will reopen no later than 6 a.m. Monday, March 3.
NCDOT must dig up the road, remove the existing pipe, lay the new pipe and then reconstruct the road surface before reopening it to traffic.
Officials say they’re replacing the pipe now ahead of a resurfacing project scheduled to take place in Frisco later this spring.
No detour is available while the road is closed.
