ROMEO, Mich. (AP) - A May trial has been set for a 26-year-old man accused in the beating death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.
A Macomb County Circuit judge says the jury trial for Ronald Dimambro is scheduled to start May 13. He’s been charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse in the slaying of Damian Sutton.
Damian suffered head injuries on Aug. 21 in Washington Township, about 30 miles north of Detroit.
Dimambro was babysitting Damian at the time for the boy’s mother, Nicole Sutton. The toddler died six days later.
Judge Jennifer Faunce also ruled Thursday that Dimambro’s statements to investigators could be used in his trial because they were given voluntarily. Defense attorney Randy Rodnick sought to have them tossed.
