WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - A defense attorney says he hopes to soon have a psychologist examine a 14-year-old suburban Chicago girl charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 11-year-old half-sister.
Michael Conway said Friday the defense team is also hoping to keep the case in juvenile court rather than have the teen charged as an adult. Lake County State’s Attorney Michael Nerheim says he hasn’t made a decision on the issue.
The Associated Press typically doesn’t name defendants charged in juvenile court. It is not naming the victim in this case because doing so would identify the defendant.
Prosecutors allege the teen stabbed her sibling more than 30 times on Jan. 21 at a Mundelein home. They say she later told investigators the younger girl didn’t appreciate all she’d done for her.
