IOTA, La. (AP) - An Iota police officer accused of stealing weapons and cash from the police department’s evidence room, has been arrested.

Maxine Trahan, a spokeswoman for the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, on Friday announced the arrest of Daniel Broussard.

Broussard was booked into the parish jail on a charge of theft of money, felony theft of several weapons and malfeasance in office. Broussard, of Crowley, was released after posting $15,000 bail. It was not known whether he has an attorney.



The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/NLTPy3 ) Police Chief Scotty Pousson asked Sheriff Wayne Melancon to investigate in early February after Pousson suspected that weapons were missing.

Broussard’s employment status could not be confirmed. Pousson was not immediately available for comment.
