LACEY, Wash. (AP) - Police in Lacey, Wash., say a 75-year-old woman was hit by a car and killed Wednesday night as she tried to cross a local road.

Lacey Sgt. Shannon Barnes says the driver stopped immediately and is cooperating with police.

The spokeswoman says the woman was not in a crosswalk. She was not immediately identified.

KOMO-TV reports that Barnes says it does not appear that speed or alcohol played a role in the collision.

Lacey is near Olympia.
