AMITE, La. (AP) - The Tangipahoa Parish School Board has voted in favor of amending taxing district boundaries in Hammond and called for a tax vote on May 3.
The board voted unanimously Tuesday to place the 15-mill property tax proposal on the May 3 ballot.
Referred to as the Hammond magnet tax, the proposal failed marginally last May.
If passed by voters this year, the magnet tax will be on the books for 10 years— until 2023.
The Daily Star reports (https://bit.ly/1fYEy4G ) the tax would support all K-12 specialized, accelerated and magnet programs in Hammond.
School board members also agreed to change the taxing district of Consolidated School District No. 1 by eliminating four precincts for voters who do not reside in the Hammond school attendance zone.
