GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - An 8-week-old puppy pulled from a trash can in Grand Rapids last week is expected to be made available for adoption after recovering from eye surgery.
The Grand Rapids Press reports (https://bit.ly/1ntKKEp ) the puppy, believed to be a Chihuahua mix, was named Foxy by the staff at the Kent County Animal Shelter. She was found the night of Feb. 5 near a home when the temperature was in the teens.
Cassandra Bliss, a veterinary ophthalmologist who is caring for the puppy’s eye, says Foxy is a “very sweet dog” and “everyone in Grand Rapids will want to adopt her.”
Bliss says the dog’s eye was either injured or had a birth defect affecting the eye. Surgery is planned Wednesday on Foxy’s eye, and the dog also will be spayed.
