BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Ethan O’Day scored 18 points, on 8-of-10 shooting, to lead Vermont past UMass Lowell 83-58 Wednesday night.
DJ Mlachnik hit a jumper early the game, giving UMass Lowell a 7-6 lead. Vermont then scored 13 of the next 16 points, including eight by O’Day, as the Catamounts opened up a double-digit lead nearly 4 minutes later.
Akeem Williams hit the second of two free throws with 10:03 left in the half to pull the River Hawks within five, but Vermont (16-9, 10-1 America East) closed the first period with a 26-4 run and took a 49-22 advantage into the half.
UVM shot 53.3 percent from the floor, including 7 of 13 from 3-point range, and led by as many as 31 points.
Candon Rusin added 14 points and Sandro Carissimo 13 in the win.
Williams paced UMass Lowell (8-16, 6-6) with 22 points.
