CHAMBERLAIN, S.D. (AP) - The U.S. Geological Survey says there have been no damage reports from a minor earthquake in the Chamberlain area of southeastern South Dakota.
The Daily Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1ffYj66) that the Friday afternoon quake measured 2.9 on the Richter scale. Police Chief Joe Hutmacher says city officials received no calls from the public.
It was the first earthquake in South Dakota since Dec. 12, when a 3.5-magnitude quake happened at Custer State Park in the southwest. USGS seismologist Jeff Earle says it’s a reminder that earthquakes can happen anywhere.
