PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A southern South Dakota man who pleaded guilty to an abusive sexual contact charge has been sentenced to three years in prison.

The U.S. District Attorney in South Dakota on Wednesday announced that 26-year-old Joseph Blue Bird was also sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to register as a sex offender.

Authorities allege the St. Francis abused a woman in May 2012 during a party at a neighbor’s house in Rosebud. Blue Bird was indicted by a federal grand jury in September of that year. He pleaded guilty on November 2013.
