SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a Hampden man has died in an early morning car crash in Springfield.

A fire department spokesman says the driver apparently lost control and crashed near a restaurant and bank at the intersection of Slater Avenue and Boston Road at about 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead when he was extricated.



His name was not immediately made public.

The crash remains under investigation.
