ATLANTA (AP) - The Butts County coroner says a man appears to have died from hypothermia after spending hours outside during a winter storm that dumped ice, snow and freezing rain on northern and central Georgia.
Coroner Ralph Wilson identified the man as 50-year-old Kenneth Mitchell. Wilson said Mitchell’s wife thought he was going to a neighbor’s house Tuesday evening. Then she found him lying on the front porch of their home around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday and called 911.
The coroner says Mitchell had some other health issues but appeared to have died from hypothermia after spending about five hours outside. Wilson said Mitchell’s body had no obvious external injuries.
An official cause of death will be determined by an autopsy and the death was still under investigation.
