HONOLULU (AP) - Honolulu Fire Department officials say a 49-year-old woman died when her car drove over a cliff and into the ocean at Laie Point.
Fire Capt. Terry Seelig tells the Honolulu Star-Advertiser (https://bit.ly/1csLCnv) that the woman was the only person in the car Monday.
The car landed upside-down in 20 feet of water about 50 feet from the cliff.
Seelig says three people tried to rescue the woman from the submerged four-door sedan.
Fire officials reached the scene at 1:30 p.m.
Rescue divers were able to open the car door and pull the woman out.
Divers and Emergency Medical Services personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation but could not revive her.
The cause of the crash has not been determined.
