PHOENIX (AP) - Federal authorities in Phoenix have arrested a man accused of violating the terms of his probation for marijuana possession in Utah.

U.S. Marshals Service officials say 25-year-old Edgar Villegas was taken into custody Monday after members of a federally coordinated task force found him on the run with his children.

They say Villegas fled Utah after a warrant was issued for his arrest on probation violation and an order requiring the removal of his children from Villegas and their mother.

Authorities say Villegas is considered a career criminal and affiliate to a known Utah street gang.

After his arrest outside a Phoenix retail store, Villegas’ youngest child was placed into the care of Arizona Child Protective Services at the scene.

Authorities didn’t release the ages or genders of Villegas’ children.
