VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) - Police in a San Francisco Bay Area city say robbers have made off with thousands of dollars from a convenience store by loading the money onto gift cards.
The same 7-Eleven store in Vallejo has been robbed twice over the past week and a half. Police say during the most recent robbery on Feb. 8, one of the suspects took the clerk to a back room while an accomplice loaded $6,000 onto gift cards.
The previous robbery on Feb. 2 also involved gift card theft - about $1,500 in that case.
Vallejo Police Lt. Herman Robinson tells the San Francisco Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1m3mXQk) the suspects likely have retail experience given their knowledge of how to load the gift cards.
The cards are untraceable.
Investigators have not identified the suspects or made any arrests.
