MURIETTA, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California man arrested after his Akita attacked a toddler at a home improvement store has been charged with felony negligence.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports (https://bit.ly/1lvpBL1 ) 62-year-old Robert Kahn of Murrieta was charged Monday. He is scheduled for arraignment Feb. 27 and remains free on $5,000 bail.
Police said the 3-year-old boy was bitten on the face and neck by the leashed dog at a Lowe’s store on Dec. 28. The boy needed about 50 stitches to fix his wounds.
Investigators found the dog had injured two other children, ages 3 and 5, in separate unreported incidents in October and November.
Kahn’s lawyer, Nic Cocis, said it’s unusual for a dog owner to be charged with a crime in a case involving an accidental bite.
The Akita named Chester has been taken in by a rescue facility.
