THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A Lafourche councilman plans to start discussions this week on whether the parish should keep its current garbage collection company or hire a replacement.
The parish’s contract with Progressive Waste Solutions, which costs about $500,000 a month, ends Dec. 31.
Councilman Daniel Lorraine tells The Daily Comet (bit.ly/Nuhtiu) he believes it’s best to form a committee to review the contract and determine a course of action.
Lorraine says parish councilmen have complained about the company, called SWDI before being sold to Progressive Waste in 2010, off and on over the past several years. Each time, pickup service improves but complaints seem to resurface.
Some residents are pressing for the parish to change contracts. One option could be newly formed Pelican Waste and Debris, started by former SWDI manager Roddie Matherne.
