SPRING, Texas (AP) - Investigators say one person has been hurt when a small plane crashed and flipped near a Houston-area airport.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Sunday afternoon in a wooded area near Hooks Airport in Spring.

The sheriff’s office says the victim was transported to a hospital. The person’s name and condition weren’t immediately released. Two other people on board escaped injury.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the single-engine plane apparently was trying to make an emergency landing in a field. DPS Trooper Richard Standifer says the plane possibly hit a berm before crashing.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash about a mile from the airport.
