NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Newark police say a city man and his girlfriend were both stabbed several times by the man’s son.

But it’s not yet known what spurred the attack, which was reported around 8 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Elizabeth Avenue.

The Star-Ledger (https://bit.ly/MK3F37) reports that aggravated assault and weapons charges have been filed against 25-year-old Tasheem Roper. Police say the 57-year-old male victim identified his son as the attacker, and Roper allegedly had several knives in his possession when he was arrested.

The male victim and his 56-year-old girlfriend were each treated at the scene, and the woman was taken to a hospital. But further details on their conditions have not been disclosed, and their names were not released.

It’s not known if Roper has retained an attorney.
