WALDORF, Md. (AP) - A local elected official from Charles County has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Democrat Reuben Collins is vice president of the Charles County Board of Commissioners. He’s been a county commissioner since 2006, representing the Waldorf area.

The Charles County sheriff’s office says Collins was pulled over on Thursday night after an officer saw him driving erratically. The office says Collins failed field sobriety tests, and a breath test revealed that his blood-alcohol concentration was over the legal limit of .08 percent.

Collins was charged with DUI and released to a relative.

Collins did not return a message left at his home on Saturday afternoon.
