Zhou Yongkang arrested; China’s former spy chief accused of leaking secrets

China has arrested its former spy chief, Zhou Yongkang, and expelled him from the Communist Party for leaking secrets and taking bribes.

China’s official Xinhua News Agency said Friday that the decision to arrest Zhou, 71, was made after a a meeting of the Political Bureau of the party’s Central Committee last Saturday. He had been under investigation since July, 2012, The Associated Press reported Friday.

Zhou is the highest-profile figure to be targeted for corruption charges under President Xi Jinping’s, Reuters reported Friday.

Judicial authorities have not yet determined when Zhou will stand trial.
