BALTIMORE (AP) — A statewide environmental group says offshore wind power development is critical for achieving its clean-air goals.

Environment Maryland recommends in a Thursday report that state and federal agencies expedite the development of offshore wind farms, including projects in nearly 80,000 acres of the Atlantic Ocean off the Maryland coast.

The group says land-based wind power projects in Maryland produced enough electricity to power more than 29,000 homes in 2013.

The report says offshore wind power could produce enough power for more than 750,000 homes within 15 years.
