A French man shouted “Allahu Akbar” (“God is great” in Arabic) as he smashed his vehicle into a crowd of people, injuring 11, one day after another French man shouted the same phrase in an attack on three police officers.
A source told the Agence France-Presse that the 40-year-old man drove his car into a crowd in the eastern French city of Dijon on Sunday, critically wounding two people and injuring nine others.
The source said the man is “apparently imbalanced and had been in a psychiatric hospital,” adding, “for now his motives are still unclear.”
The attack came a day after a Muslim convert shouted “Allahu Akbar” and attacked three police officers with a knife before being shot dead in the central town of Joue-les-Tours.
Investigators are reportedly focusing on whether radical Islam played a role in that attack and have launched an investigation into “attempted murder and criminal conspiracy in connection with a terrorism organization,” the BBC reported.
