BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - The new edition of the Historic Beaufort Foundation’s guide to Historic Beaufort tells visitors and residents a lot more about the history of the South Carolina coastal town.

The Beaufort Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1uMUlu8 ) that the new 10th edition of the guide adds information for about 35 more historic buildings. It now tells a bit about the history of 170 of the 500 historic structures in the downtown Beaufort historic district

One of those added in the new edition is the Mouzon House, a boarding house visited by black celebrities during the 20th Century. The guest list included fighter Joe Louis, gospel singer Mahalia Jackson and Morehouse College president Benjamin Mays.



The guide was last updated fifteen years ago.
