ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Officials with the Kisatchie National Forest are seeking volunteers to help maintain the many trails that wind through the forest, which covers parts of seven parishes.

Johnny Fryar, a national resource specialist with the Calcasieu Ranger district, told The Town Talk (https://1.usa.gov/1BibzUG ) that there are more than 200 miles of trails for the staff to keep up with.

On Tuesday, officials with the ranger district met with interested people to make a pitch for help and to sign up volunteers to help clear trash and vegetation.

It’s not always a small job. Of particular concern are trees that have either fallen or are in danger of falling and blocking pathways. The district can certify volunteers who are able to use chain saws for work to clear such obstacles.
