ONEIDA, Tenn. (AP) - Officials with Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are seeking comments from the public as they develop a remediation plan for mine drainage sites.
A statement from the National Park Service says an environmental assessment is being drafted for selected contaminated sites on the Kentucky side of Big South Fork.
The assessment will focus on the construction and operation of conservation measures that the Corps will implement on National Park Service lands to improve aquatic habitat conditions in the Cumberland River for the endangered duskytail darter.
Comments can be sent to the park until Jan. 15 or emailed to biso_superintendent@nps.gov.
