LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Three technical school students in Laramie who like diesel power want to stop other drivers from soiling their reputations with clouds of black smoke.

The three formed a chapter of the group Clean Diesel Performance and hope to prove that not all diesel fans are intent on showering the streets with gritty exhaust.

They say diesels running at top horsepower and efficiency don’t produce a lot of smoke.

They also say that blowing a lot of exhaust from a diesel’s tailpipe is irresponsible.

One of their goals is to help persuade federal regulators not to toughen emissions restrictions, and another is to help the environment in general.

The three students are Tanner Wiediger, Scott McIntyre and Logan Sondgeroth. All are in their 20s and are students at WyoTech’s Laramie campus.
