Webster Co. voters want new courthouse

WALTHALL, Miss. (AP) - Webster County voters overwhelmingly want supervisors to build a new courthouse in Walthall.

The nonbinding election was held Tuesday.

County supervisors say they’ll use the non-binding referendum vote to help decide what steps should be taken before construction of any kind begins.

The old courthouse in Walthall suffered heavy damage in a fire in January 2013.

County officials say a private adjuster estimated renovation costs to be around $7 million, but an insurance company only wanted to pay $3 million.
