MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Civil War soldiers will be honored with a historic marker at a battlefield in Virginia.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/1i1SkXD) that state officials announced the marker Wednesday.

The marker details the story of Vermonters at Cedar Creek and says that Vermont soldiers “played an important role in the Union victory” there.

The historic marker will be placed near the Virginia battlefield in October. Historian Howard Coffin says the commemoration is as part of the 150th observance of the Shenandoah campaign of the Civil War.
