NEW KENT, Va. (AP) - A Henrico County woman faces charges of embezzling from a cat rescue group in New Kent County.

Fifty-year-old MaryBeth Andre is charged with three counts of embezzling from Operation Catnip. She’s accused of taking nearly $20,000 over two years.

Andre declined to comment to the Richmond Times-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1gKwKSR).

The newspaper reports that new members of Operation Catnip’s board who took office earlier this year became suspicious when they had difficulty getting Andre to turn over the books. They reported their suspicions to the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

New Kent commonwealth’s attorney J. Linwood Gregory says the investigation is continuing.
