LEXINGTON, N.C. (AP) - The City of Thomasville says 12,500 gallons of untreated wastewater have spilled into South Hamby Creek in the Yadkin and Pee Dee River Basin.
The Dispatch of Lexington reports (https://bit.ly/PQTOJT ) that the spill happened after sudden heavy rains on Monday morning.
The wastewater came from the East Davidson Sanitary Sewage Pump Station, and officials say that most of the spill came directly from the rainwater.
The N.C. Division of Environment and Natural Resources has been notified and is reviewing the matter. A project to rehabilitate the pump station is expected to be completed by October.
