KANKAKEE, Ill. (AP) - A Kankakee teenager has been charged as a juvenile with murder in connection with the death of an alleged accomplice in a carjacking.

The Kankakee Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1qtK97f) the 15-year-old, who is unidentified because of his age, was arrested Wednesday and accused of helping 18-year-old Cleophus C. Reed of carjacking a Kankakee motorist earlier that day. The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department alleges the younger teen took the carjacking victim at gunpoint to his home. There the victim allegedly shot and killed Reed.

Though the teen is said to have been Reed’s accomplice, he is tentatively being charged with murder. Under Illinois law, defendants can be liable for murder even if the victim is an accomplice.

The 15-year-old is scheduled to appear in Kankakee County Court on Thursday.
