MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont officials are promoting a new regional marketing strategy called Strengthening Southern Vermont.

The tagline for the campaign is “So Vermont” and planned tourism advertisements tell visitors to “Become a Vermonter for a weekend.”

The campaign is funded through a federal grant to the Windham and Bennington Regional Planning Commissions. Organizers hope the effort will increase tourism and create jobs in southern Vermont.

Vermont Public Radio reports (https://bit.ly/1krSomM) that regional planners say they need to bring more business, workers and tourists to the area.

The state has pledged $75,000 to the campaign.

Organizer Laura Sibilia of the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation says they hope to start the marketing campaign in the fall.
